WHY OSTEOPATHY ?
There is magic in what we do

It works! There is no cure-all, but osteopathy has a great reputation for bringing relief for numerous painful and challenging conditions.
The best results are often achieved through receiving a course of treatments. Even though a painful condition may seem to occur suddenly, there is always an underlying predisposition or maintaining causes that need to be unwound and the longer-standing or the more traumatic a cause, the longer it may take to resolve the condition. Osteopathic treatment, where possible, aims to address the root cause of any condition and stabilise your recovery.
Many people with go to an osteopath for ongoing help with stressful lifestyles, physical jobs, children with developmental challenges or just for continued support through difficult times.
Osteopathy is a well-established approach to healthcare trusted by many worldwide for a wide variety of conditions. Of course there are the better-known benefits of relief for joint pains, stiffness, muscle pain and back pain, but its application can be far wider; relief for ailing infants, children with sports injuries and postural problems, relief during pregnancy and preparing body and mind for childbirth as well as health support for all manner of conditions.
An osteopath has to go through a rigorous training and continuing education to maintain safety and hygiene standards as well as a thorough technical instruction to acquire and refine the very precise handling skills needed be able to accurately adjust the old, young, fragile and pained.
What is OSTEOPATHY?

The term ‘Classical Osteopathy’ was coined by members of the Institute of Applied Osteopathy (now the The Institute of Classical Osteopathy) in the early 1990’s to apply the same terminology as in other senses of the word ‘Classical’, such as Classical Architecture:
“representing an exemplary standard within a traditional and long-established form and relating to the first significant period of an area of study.” Osteopathy reached its heyday in the early 20th Century, when osteopathy represented a whole system of healthcare incorporating an approach to health and disease through a more holistic approach to manual therapy.
About
Chris Batten DO
Chris studied osteopathy on a four-year, full-time course in Maidstone, UK, under a great osteopath, John Wernham, who had been a student of John Martin Littlejohn, himself a student of Andrew Taylor Still, the discoverer of Osteopathy. It was a privilege to be taught by the successor to such a lineage, with personal stories from the roots of the profession, a very thorough education in a traditional approach to osteopathy, a thorough grounding in medical sciences and clinical methods.
After qualifying in 1989, Chris established his practice, treating with this traditional approach to osteopathy, which steers body, mind and spirit towards a greater sense of ease, free movement, equilibrium and stability. He developed a broad patient-base in the UK, with special interests in treatment during pregnancy, for infants and children, and osteopathy for general health.
With a deep thirst for a greater understanding and need to share, he added to his busy practice a career in teaching classical osteopathy at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as lecturing at conferences worldwide. Since 2000, he has been Secretary and Director of Education of the Institute of Classical Osteopathy.
